One of the first things I say to families who have hired me is: “It doesn’t really matter where you go to college.” Remarkably, I haven’t lost a client yet.

I go on to explain that there are over 4,000 colleges & universities in the US and that by working with me, each student will be able to identify 7-10 where they will have an academic, financial and social fit - ensuring a positive experience & timely graduation.
Continuing Education Is Becoming Mandatory
The reality is that the 4-year undergraduate degree is becoming a commodity. It is just the first step on a path of lifelong learning that this generation will traverse. They will have more jobs across more industries than their parents by a factor of 3. This means that continued re-education, certificate programs, technology training, graduate degrees, etc. will most certainly be a part of their journey.
It's a Mindset
My oldest, a college freshman, had some “disappointments” with her college decisions last year. At that time, she felt deflated. Last weekend, she was home and talking to her sister (a high school junior) about her college list. She admitted that, at first, she felt sad that her #1 school didn’t make an offer. Now, however, she said she can’t imagine being anywhere else. She said (and I quote), “It’s all about your mindset. If you decide you will be happy, then you will. You are going to thrive wherever you go.”
Keep Calm & College On
So, take a deep breath everyone. These are just the next few years, not the rest of your life. The goal is learning, experiencing, meeting new people.
When you work with me, I’ll teach you how to be thoughtful about your academic, financial and social parameters and strategic with how you plan this college admissions project.
If you approach the college process with this “positive mindset”, then you are bound to have MANY great options on the table in the spring of your senior year. Most importantly, you will set yourself up for happiness.
